Accept your little ones for who they are

Accept your little ones for who they are. Love them and support them, scaffold them to independence, but always believe in them. A turning point in my eldest daughter and my relationship was when I said to her, “my baby it feels like you are under water and I’m on land. I thought you were drowning and struggling but you aren’t. You’re just a mermaid fairy (she loves fairies) who lives under water. That’s no problem, I’ll just learn to speak mermaid. You don’t have to join me on land”. I watched her little face light up. She went off to her room and came back with two blue sparkly bangles and said “these are blue so they’ll help you speak mermaid”. I’ve been wearing them ever since.
